Escape the Heat this Summer with Some Indoor Activities in Sarasota

Florida is a great place to live.  There is so much to see and do.  However, they do call it the Sunshine State for a reason.  During the summer months, temperatures stay hot.  That, along with high humidity can cause oppressive conditions.  The good news is that there are still plenty of indoor activities in Sarasota.  So take a break during those uncomfortable summer days and move into one of these air-conditioned activities.

Shopping at the Mall at UTC

The Mall at UTC features 100 specialty stores and 20 restaurants and is the premier shopping destination in Sarasota County.  The best part is that it’s always cool inside, so it is worth spending an afternoon to shop, dine and relax in comfort.

The Mall at UTC is open Monday through Thursday from 10 AM – 8 PM, Friday and Saturday from 10 AM – 9 PM and on Sundays 11 AM – 6 PM.

Escape Rooms

Escape rooms have become very popular because of their immersive atmosphere and mental challenge.  Escape rooms offer a hands-on, interactive form of entertainment where participants are actively engaged in solving puzzles and uncovering clues.  Many escape rooms are designed with elaborate themes and storylines, making players feel like they are part of an adventure or mystery.  Escape rooms require teamwork, encouraging participants to communicate, collaborate, and use their collective skills to succeed.  They provide a fun and exciting way for friends, families, and coworkers to bond and work together towards a common goal.

While escape rooms may be challenging, they are indoors in a cool environment, making it a great indoor summertime activity.  Fortunately, Sarasota has plenty of great options for escape rooms.  Here are a few of the most popular nearby escape room experiences:

Mysterium Escape Rooms & VR:  Offers a variety of escape rooms and themes under one roof.  Plus, Mysterium also offers virtual reality (VR) games for two people.  It offers video-gamed and sci-fi themed cocktails, craft beer, wine as well as pizza, fries and other snacks.

Escape Rooms Unlocked:  This escape room center has three separate adventures in their Sarasota location.  Their escape rooms are known for their energy and creative challenges.

Escape Reality: Escape Reality offers three themed escape rooms with a level of difficulty that is up to you.

Escape Room Sarasota: This is Sarasota’s longest running escape room with two immersive rooms to choose from.

Escapology: Find hidden clues, crack codes and solve puzzles before your time is up.  Escapology offers a number of themed experiences plus a special kids’ mode for ages 7-14.

Trampoline Parks

Trampoline parks have gained widespread popularity in recent years because they provide a fun way to get exercise, promoting cardiovascular health, muscle strength, and coordination.  For many, trampolining is more appealing and enjoyable than conventional exercise routines, encouraging people to be more active.  Trampoline parks cater to people of all ages, from young children to adults, making them a great family outing.  Trampoline parks are also popular venues for birthday parties, group outings, and corporate events. They offer a fun and interactive setting for socializing and team-building.

Sarasota offers two great choices when it comes to trampoline parks:

Skyzone Trampoline Park: This venue offers 19 attractions including a Ninja Warrior course, Ultimate Dodgeball, Wipe Out, Zip Line and a new Mega Launch Slide and Basketball Air court.  There is something for everyone, regardless of your age, shape or size.

Jumpin Fun Inflate Park: Jumpin Fun boasts over 15,000 sq/ft of inflatable fun with numerous obstacle courses, as well as a 250ft long AirRider Zip-Rail Coaster, rock climbing wall and even a toddler zone..

Museums are a great way to keep cool during the summer months as well as explore something new.  Sarasota has world-class choices when it comes to museums, including:

Ringling Museum: Not only is it the State Art Museum of Florida, it features an historic mansion, a circus museum, a beautiful theater and a reference library on 66 acres of manicured property by Sarasota Bay.

Sarasota Classic Car Museum: Established in 1953, the Sarasota Classic Car Museum is one of the oldest continuously operating car museums in the United States.  The museum features a diverse collection of over 75 vehicles, including classic, antique, vintage, and exotic cars. The collection spans over a century of automotive history.  The museum frequently rotates its exhibits, showcasing different themes and periods in automotive history. This ensures that even repeat visitors have something new to see.  Among other vehicles, visitors can see a 1965 Mercedes-Benz formerly owned by John Lennon and a 1979 Mercedes-Benz owned by Paul McCartney.

Sarasota Art Museum:  Situated on the Ringling College Campus, it was formerly the old Sarasota High School building.  A contemporary art museum (an art museum without a permanent collection) its goal is to inspire new ideas and new ways of cultivating visual thinkers and ethical citizens.

The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature: This is the largest natural history museum on Florida’s Gulf Coast.  Here you can explore fossils from Florida’s earliest animal inhabitants, a planetarium with one of the most advanced all-digital projection systems in the world and the Parker Manatee Rehabilitation Habitat with more than 40 manatees.
