Experience Siesta Key

Experience Siesta Key

There’s so much to see and do in Siesta Key that visitors can spend a week or two and not get everything in.  However, what if you had just one day to experience Siesta Key?  In this article, we’ll run with this imaginary scenario and try to cram the best of Siesta Key all in one day.  So, take a deep breath, and let’s hit the ground running in an attempt to experience Siesta Key in just one day.

Even if we weren’t going to try and experience Siesta Key at breakneck speeds, we would never think about skipping breakfast.  It truly is the most important meal of the day and we’ll need all the energy we can muster.  Luckily, Siesta Key has some of the best breakfast options on the Gulf Coast.  Whether you are in the mood for banana pancakes at the Sun Garden Café, an incredible omelet at Another Broken Egg, stuffed French toast at the Village Café or a breakfast sandwich at Bean Coffeehouse, a delicious breakfast is your stepping stone to a great day on the island.

Siesta Key Beach

Next, it’s time to hit the award-winning Siesta Key Beach.  Consistently named one of the best beaches in America, its 99% quartz-crystal powdery sand and gentle waves are an absolute treat compared to most other beaches.  The beach also offers a large parking area, concession stands, and a free trolley to get you there and back.  We recommend getting there right after breakfast to avoid the afternoon crowds.  Depending on the time of year that you go, it can be rather hot later on as well.  You also don’t want to overdo it in the sun and come back looking like a cooked lobster.

Time for Something Cool

Even just a few hours at the beach and you will be ready for a cool break.  Treat yourself to some of the best Italian gelato you’ve ever tasted at Made in Rome Organic Gelato or homemade ice cream at Olaf’s Siesta VillageJake’s Ice Cream also offers award-winning treats and unique flavors.  For frozen tropical drinks, the Daiquiri Deck serves up margaritas and daiquiris in a wide variety of flavors.  If you’ve never had a great mojito, then you may want to visit Siesta Key Oyster Bar (SKOB) for quite possibly the best mojito you’ll ever have.

Go Shopping at Siesta Key Village

Siesta Key Village has a wide variety of stores and boutiques, from eclectic to high-end.  Now is a great time to beat the heat and explore some of these shops.  Foxy Lady is a popular store that imports the latest fashion designs from the world’s couture capitals.  The Beach Bazaar is a one-stop shop for all of your beach and vacation needs.  Gidget’s Coastal Provisions has a great selection of gifts and souvenirs with a decidedly beach theme.  Casa del Sol is another popular shop for beachwear and the Marmalade Surfside offers the best in lady's beachwear and casual fashions.

All that shopping is bound to make you hungry, so now is a great time to eat a light lunch.  Island House Tap and Grill makes a variety of island-inspired tacos.  The Hub Baja Grill is a tropical-themed eatery perfect for a casual bite.  The Old Salty Dog is a dog-friendly British pub offering a great menu of seafood and pub favorites.  Gilligan’s Island Bar & Grill is another favorite for lunch serving casual fare with a tiki-style atmosphere.

Take in Some Sightseeing

There are many ways to check out the beauty of Siesta Key.  Ride & Paddle is a company that rents scooters, bikes, kayaks, and paddleboards as well as beach gear.  Siesta Bike & Kayak also rents bicycles, electric bikes, scooters, kayaks and paddleboards.  Siesta Key Snorkel offers a two-hour eco-tour by boat and for those who enjoy high-octane sightseeing, Siesta Key Jet Ski offers a variety of rental packages.

Watch the Sun Set

On most evenings, Siesta Key offers spectacular sunsets.  We recommend watching at Sunset Point, located at the north end of the Siesta Public Beach.

Fine Dining

After a day of beachgoing, sightseeing, and shopping, it’s now time to reward yourself with a fine dining experience.  Siesta Key has some great options to choose from.  The Siesta Key Summer House offers wonderfully seasoned, hand-cut steaks and a good selection of seafood.  The Cottage focuses on inventive, seasonal cuisine from around the world.  Café Gabbiano serves upscale Italian favorites and has an extensive wine list.  Clayton’s Siesta Grille promises only the freshest ingredients in its seafood.

Enjoy the Night Life

After dinner, the fun is just beginning.  You can listen to live music at Captain Curt’s Sniki Tiki Bar and the Boatyard Waterfront Bar & Grill.  If you are looking to dance the night away in a modern club setting, the Beach Club is for you.  The Big Tiki Lounge offers live entertainment and bar games

Take a Moonlight Walk on the Beach

Forget the roads or walkways.  Walk back to your accommodation along the beach.  It’s a great way to end the perfect day at Siesta Key as you hear the waves rolling in and watch the stars overhead.
