Things To Do On South Siesta Key

South Siesta Key offers a variety of activities to enjoy, from relaxing on its pristine beaches to exploring nature trails and indulging in delicious dining options.  Here are our favorite things to do on South Siesta Key:

Rent Scooters or Bikes from Ride & Paddle

Ride & Paddle by Siesta Sports Rentals is a full-service bike shop and a great way to rent bicycles, e-bikes, kayaks, and beach gear.  Since beginning their business in 1995, they have been Sarasota’s largest fun rental business  You can book online, and they deliver and pick up.

Their shop is located at the Southbridge Mall on Siesta Key, and they launch their kayaks and paddleboards at the Turtle Beach Public Boat Ramp.  For more information, please visit their website.

Grill and Picnic at Turtle Beach

Turtle Beach is a beautiful secluded beach at the southernmost tip of Siesta Key.  It originally got its name because it is a sea turtle nesting habitat and is a great place to discover a wide variety of native sea shells.  Although Turtle Beach does not have lifeguards on duty, it does have a number of amenities, including picnic shelters, grills, park benches, outdoor showers, and restrooms.

Many people come here to enjoy a picnic or grill burgers and hotdogs.  It’s a great place to stay for the entire day.

Snorkel or Go Fishing at Point of Rocks

Point of Rocks is a series of limestone formations at the southern end of Crescent Beach.  It is widely considered to be the best place to snorkel on Siesta Key.  The water is usually calm and shallow for about 100 yards offshore.  Here you can usually spot schools of fish, as well as a nice variety of shellfish.  Dolphins are known to frequent the area.  During the summer months, you may even spot manatees.

Because of the limestone formations, Point of Rocks is also known for its excellent surf fishing.  The area attracts a number of game fish like flounder, mackerel, snapper, and snook.

Sunset Dinner at Ophelia’s on the Bay

Siesta Key is known for its amazing sunsets, and perhaps the best place to have a sunset dinner is Ophelia’s on the Bay.  Not only do they serve fresh and flavorful dishes, but the views are spectacular.  The restaurant boasts two glass-walled dining rooms and an outside open-air patio that gives unparalleled views of Little Sarasota Bay and its wildlife.  Most evenings at sunset, the sky becomes an explosion of color that many people describe as magical.

Experience Old Florida at Captain Curt’s

Captain Curt’s Village has a décor and nautical theme that will send you back to your childhood.  Here you can experience vintage Florida the way it was fifty, sixty, and seventy years ago.  It’s a fun place to bring the family or take your loved one.  There is entertainment every afternoon and evening at their Sniki Tiki bar and they boast the longest running karaoke show on Siesta Key (every Tuesday & Thursday).

The food is pretty good too with seafood their obvious specialty.  For more information, please visit their website.
