Florida sees a steady stream of tourists drive or fly down to enjoy the weather, the beaches, and the attractions. For many of these vacationers, Siesta Key/Sarasota is the ideal spot to spend their time. Once someone visits this little piece of Florida paradise, it’s hard to imagine a better place to revisit year after year.
If this is the first time you are planning a trip to Siesta Key or the twentieth, here are a few travel tips that can make your trip a more enjoyable time.
Many people overpack for their Florida vacation and many of their clothes just take up space. Siesta Key is pretty laid back, so leave most of the formal clothes at home. For much of the year, temperatures under the Florida sun are toasty warm so loose, light-colored clothes going to be favored. A wide hat or a visor and sunglasses are a good idea as well. If you plan to hit the beach or pool, a couple of bathing suits for each person will be a necessity.
If you plan to visit in the months from October through March, you may see cooler temperatures that require a sweater or light jacket for the evening/early morning hours. For footwear, pair of comfortable walking shoes and some sandals are your best bet for all seasons. Remember, the lighter you pack, the more room you will have for souvenirs.
Getting anywhere you need to go on Siesta Key is easy. Many of the areas, such as the beach and Siesta Village, can be reached by a short walk. If walking more than a few blocks is difficult for you, taxis, Uber, and Lyft are just a call away. If you decide to explore more of the area or head out of town for an attraction, renting a car will be needed.
There are so many choices on where to eat in Siesta Key/Sarasota that it would take a book to list them all. Suffice to say, anything and everything you crave can be found within a short walk or car drive. While some of the restaurants may have a dress code, most are just casual/come-as-you-are places.
While eating out on vacation is always nice, it can get a little expensive as well. Each of the accommodations listed on Siesta Key Island Rentals has a full kitchen, so you can save money by eating in.
There is always something going on in Sarasota. From outdoor events to performing arts, the possibilities are endless, Be sure to ask us when you arrive if we know of anything happening during your stay, and be sure to check out our events page on our website while planning a trip to Siesta Key.
The weather is usually fantastic in Siesta Key but we all know Mother Nature can be unpredictable. In the summer, occasional rain showers are normal and to be expected. It’s always good to pack an umbrella and some plastic bags for items you want to keep dry. Lightning can also be frequent. When you hear thunder, it’s always good to head for shelter and stay out of the water under the thunderstorm has passed. It’s always good to check the forecast before you leave home for rare, but unusual, weather patterns and every morning before you head out and around Siesta Key.
The best piece of advice we can give is to have fun and don’t stress about the little things. Many times we can over plan for vacations and the anxiety of staying on schedule can be a stress-inducer. Take it easy and remember that you’re now on island time. Take off your watch and put away the phone. Allow your body, mind, and spirit to relax and just let go.
You’ll be glad you did!
